Remember when Rachel Platten released “Fight Song” last year and it was like “the” empowerment song of the year? Nothing better than some good ol’ pop that sends good feels and good messages all around. Well anyways, today Laces aka Jessie Poland has released a new single called “Freedom” that sort of embodies the same themes along the lines of “Fight Song”!
A little bit about the artist: formerly doing her music thing under artist name Charlotte Sometimes, Poland was a VH1 “You Oughta Know” artist, one of Alternative Press’ “100 Bands You Need to Know,” and she even competed on the hit NBC TV show, The Voice.
However, that’s all in the past. Jessie Poland‘s new project is, as she describes it, a “whiskey drinking, dark-pop-music making singer-songstress brand”.
“Freedom” is a spirited, empowering track that showcases Jessie Poland aka Laces soaring vocals in all the right ways.
On the track, Laces has to say:
And boy, does this track deliver. “Freedom” is all about being optimistic and strong with yourself, and this is heard through the tambourine-speckled, plucky stringed, thumping drummed production that wraps itself around Laces’s big bold voice. I’m a big fan of this track mostly because the production and Laces‘ lyrics reach far and hit their target; the message she wants to send out is moving and can be powerfully heard in this song. Laces has this big bold voice that belts out the lyrics with a genuine fierceness that makes you want to stop and listen.
