GIMME5 is the opportunity to discover 5 worthy tracks in one post. Here is a selection of electronic and indie pop tunes that will probably make it to your iTunes libraries! Don’t miss the punchy tracks of Whales & This Lake, The Midnight and Everything is Green, and the hypnotic new singles of Surma and ISLE, between twilight and dawn.
An indietronica and indie-pop selection to definitely check on if you like bands such as MGMT, Empire of The Sun, Niki & The Dove, iamamiwhoami and M83
First, let’s start with Norwegian indie-pop act Whales & This Lake is joined by L’Astronomie on their new track “Huuk,” B-Side of their track “Right Hand Finger”. The rendition will certainly remind you of MGMT, Empire Of The Sun or Niki & The Dove.
Next, Everything Is Green offers a refreshing cocktail of catchy pop hooks and crazy instrumentation, notably based on a smart use of sampling. “Drip Dry” is the first single taken from their debut LP “Sweet Teeth,” due to be released soon via Space Gang Recordings.
“There is a Japanese term: Mono no aware. It means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass – the aching awareness of impermanence. These are the days that we will return to one day in the future only in memories. How do we capture them? How could we possibly be able to fully appreciate them in the present? This project is our attempt to put time under glass.” On their last single “Vampires,” LA-based synth indie-pop duo The Midnight is virtually proceeding with the marriage of M83‘s “Midnight City” and Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Run Away With Me”. As it totally works, we hope to be invited to the ceremony!
ISLE and SURMA are new acts that draw their inspiration in the dark side of electronic and indie-pop music!
Then, self-producer Liam John Rutherford and drummer Ben Singer are ISLE. “Luna” is an infectious and viral indie-pop track, between twilight and dawn. “Luna is about purpose, finding your way and following a path. It’s about listening to that internal compass we all have and making sense of what it’s telling you.” The track is taken from their 5-track “Grey EP“.
Finally don’t miss the hypnotic debut of SURMA, a “one woman band with bass, guitar, keys, voice and some loop pedals”. “Masaai,” the first single taken from an LP expected for 2017 via Omnichord Records, has the dark beauty of a sky lighted up with a full moon. The track has some vibes of iamamiwhoami and it is simply exquisite!
