The musical story of Boulevards started from an early age as he is the son of a jazz radio DJ. Jamil innately grew up in a house where jazz, blues, R&B and funk was constantly played. However, the artist from Raleigh, NC broadened his horizon during his adolescence by branching out with punk and metal.
The first track of the EP, “Got To Go”, was produced by Rollergirl! and was already released at the beginning of 2015. It is a disco track cadenced by claps, a funky bassline and abrasive synths. It reminds us a pop version of Chromeo or Breakbot. The video was directed by Lauren Gesswein & Alexander Christenson.
“Sanity” follows a bit the same pattern, even if the track is way much funkier. The break will obviously make you think of Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson‘s masterpiece “Wanna Be Starting Something”.

He is also drawing the future of funk music, like Dâm-Funk, and you can hear this modern touch in the bass acidity and the echoes of “Forgot To Mention”, a track that was produced by Isaac Galvez.
